ABOUT BORN OF OSIRIS —
Chicago-based metalcore outfit Born of Osiris (formerly known as Rosecrance) formed around the talents of Lee McKinney (guitar), Ronnie Canizaro (vocals), Joe Buras (keyboards/backing vocals), David Darocha (bass), Cameron Losch (drums), and Matt Pantelis (guitar) while still in high school. The band’s signature blend of thrash and highly melodic progressive death metal caught the ear of Sumerian Records, which signed the band (all of whose members were only 18 at the time) and released its debut, New Reign, in 2007 and sophomore effort, Higher Place, in 2009, the latter of which found its way into the Billboard Top 100.
Rhythmic, Groove, Technical, Brutal, Captivating, Face Melting are all adjectives that do not even come close to touching the tip of the iceberg when it comes to describing the sound, image and movement exploding right now out of Southern California. The source of this decibel shattering, mind-numbing, captivating phenomenon? Los Angeles metal outfit, VOLUMES.

VOLUMES eclectic tastes blend together to forge a creative bond between several types of genres that are worlds apart. This particular blend of musical styles strives to find a balance between chaos and tranquility. Standing out in their genre is the fact that VOLUMES have two lead-vocalists who utilize their different ranges to create a layered, charismatic volatile sound which leave all listeners begging for more.
ABOUT OCEANS ATE ALASKA–
Stemming from Birmingham, UK, the furious five-piece Oceans Ate Alaska is made up of James Harrison (Vocals), James Kennedy (Guitar), Adam Zytkiewicz (Guitar), Mike Stanton (Bass), and Chris Turner (Drums). The band offers a progressive strain of experimental modern metalcore that has gotten the band noticed as one of metal’s most exciting and fresh young names. With music as unpredictable as it is expressive, the band found inspiration for their name from the world’s largest recorded mega-tsunami – measuring at 1,700 feet high – that demolished Alaska’s coastline in 1958. The band was attracted to the natural disaster’s national headline that read “Oceans Ate Alaska” where they decided to carry the name on a path to make their own history.
By pushing sonic boundaries, Oceans Ate Alaska aim to take listeners on an emotional journey through unpredictable arrangements (both heavy and melodic), ruthless riffs, and unforgiving gutteral vocals; setting an atmospheric landscape that showcases the band’s technical skill.
The new album ‘Lost Isles’ is available now on Fearless Records.
ABOUT WITHIN THE RUINS–
Recognizing the talent and passion of WITHIN THE RUINS, it’s no wonder VICTORY RECORDS has added them to its growing roster. Natives to Westfield, Massachusetts, this quintet is armed with a unique take on blending tech and metal together; writing music that set their band apart from the numerous metal bands today. WITHIN THE RUINS have mastered their technique of bringing breakdowns, riffs, tempo and a dash of personality together in order to form one cohesive entity. They describe their sound as “loud, energetic, interesting and fresh” and cite bands like Metallica and As I Lay Dying as their early influences.
It would be easy to attribute their unique sound to the countless hours WITHIN THE RUINS dedicates to practicing each week. In order to perfect their technical styles, the members practice every day. “You do it long enough and you’re going to see results,” noted founding member and guitarist Joe Cocchi. “We constantly try to take our music to the next level, challenging ourselves as well as the listener.” This mindset helps WITHIN THE RUINS stay focused as they devote most of their time to evolving their sound, growing as musicians and building their fan base.
Relentless practicing to hone musical skills is one thing, but WITHIN THE RUINS also feels that touring makes up another grueling aspect in their quest for musical recognition. They have already toured with fellow Victory label mates EMMURE, as well as August Burns Red and Shadows Fall. Along the way, their fan base has spread from Massachusetts to states like Texas, Tennessee, Kentucky and New York, leaving their mark on each one as they pass through. “It’s different everywhere, that’s why it’s such an experience,” Cocchi said. “We just like to have a good time and talk to people at the shows.”
WITHIN THE RUINS is currently preparing for their second release. Be sure to check out their debut album, Creature, released in 2009.
